Wall and Roof

Well holidays are finished... busy three weeks, long days. I am tired, sore, cut, and bruised but really happy with what was accomplished. The other good news is that it seems that my roofers have finially finished the roof. it has been 3 months of trouble but the new team they sent in to fix the work of the previous team have taken their time and done a really good job with a wonky old roof. Now just to pay them : ( I will take some photos or video of it when i get the chance. Now school is back on and it is the final term i dont think I will have much time to work on the house. Reports and a end of year play will take up much of my spare time. Oh well.

the roof

The saga is still continuing. The workers came back to fix their poor job and have done another poor job. better than the last that is for sure but i am starting to think that maybe they are illiterate or something because they seem unable to follow simple instructions. The most resent was he asked me to measure how much tin i wanted to cut off the edge of the shed. I responded 260mm on the left hand side and 160 on the right, string line between both marks and we will be right. So he went and measured 260 from both ends and now the roof is too short on one end... so does that mean he has to do my roof AGAIN! not to mention the screws without rubbers, going in at wrong angles, not screwed into battens, barge boards leaving my battens exposed, holes in the tin...etc. They were meant to have it done last week. it has been two weeks now and it seems it will be extending into a third week. It is really a pain the the but. I got these guys so i didn't have to stress and worry about it. oh well so much for that. Lets just see if they can at least do the job properly. My be they will agree to keep it as is and I don't pay them? might work. I can probably manage to fix it all by myself. I am glad I am an owner builder, no one else to blame for shoddy work myself and I know that it will be done right (well to the best of my knowledge : )

Wheres my roof?

Hi everyone, well the latest thing to happen is the roof has been done. Been a complete nightmare really. They werent meant to remove all the shingles but as you can see that ddint happen! Firstly they didnt remove any and put the new tin directly onto the shingles. I called up that night and the next day they had to remove the tin off the roof again, however then they went the other way and removed all the shingles off. I had only asked them to cut sections of them off. My building designer said they did me favour and he is probably right, however it was a shock to see the original roof removed. I have salvaged a large amount of shingles to use in my kitchen as features, I think it will look really nice. I feel the roofers have done a rushed job. I guess they are roofers and not restorers. These guys now days dont deal with many jobs like mine and I would say they havent done the neatest job. My shed and ceiling is covered in dust, dirt and bird poop. The sisalation isnt very neatly done....etc..... it has been a big stress, and I was paying them so i wouldnt have to stress!!! oh well.

ROW

Oh i just read an old post.. the ROW just came through early THIS MONTH!!! cost.. $2500 just to get my own land back and it isn't all the land either. ridiculous. I took so long because my neighbour decided to refinance his mortgage halfway through the process so the lawyer had to redo a lot of stuff. He didn't do it deliberately but it did cost me a lot more because of it. Oh well, it is nice to have it back and the verandah I build is no longer illegal.

Another thing I have decided. I have decided not to do the plumbing as well as the building, it was causing me too much of a head ache trying to get my head around both. I will just deal with what I know best.. wood and building. It is going to cost me more to do it this way but it will cause me a lot less stress.

Anyway...

ciao ciao

long time no hear

The last few months have been difficult. With me getting a new job and not knowing the time pressures this would put on me coupled with Heathers fear of moving into the little unit in the Apple shed we looked at trying to sell it and move on. However there were lots of nibbles but no offers and eventually we had to move into the apple shed. This however was a positive as Heather realised that she had nothing to fear and there were some fantastic perks to the shed. So we have just taken it off the market and I have started reinforcing the rafters. I am very happy to live in the shed. It is a lot easier to build around yourself with everything close at hand. To celebrate I bought myself a some cordless drills. They are Bosch Blue, a drill driver and a hammer drill, 18v lithium Ion. Very nice and work great on the 100yr old oak. I will make a video of what i have been doing shortly. Time is still very tight with the full time job and some days I cannot be bothered working on anything however, if I keep chipping away at this it will get done and look a treat.

So well it is back on and I hope to post more regularly now.

ciao ciao for now....
